Joseph Watkins

Joseph Watkins, 77, of Edbert Street, Chicopee, MA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.  Born in Hull, Georgia, he was a son of Jap Watkins and Ruby (Sorrells) Watkins.  Mr. Watkins had been employed as a maintenance worker for General Electric for several years.  He was a member of New Creation Discipleship Ministries, where he sang in the choir, and was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Community Church.  Joseph enjoyed sports avidly and was a former Holyoke Golden Gloves boxer.  Pre-deceased by a daughter, Aretha Hallums, he is survived by five sons, Anthony (and wife, Darcia) Watkins and Lamar Scales, both of Springfield, and Andre Scales, Joey Bigalow, and Joe Davis, all of Pittsfield, MA;  a sister, Bernice Wray of Springfield;  and a longtime friend, Cheryl Anderson of Chicopee, MA;  19 grandchildren;  13 great grandchildren;  and a host of other relatives and friends .  The calling hour is 11-noon Tuesday at Harrell Funeral Home followed by the funeral at noon, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
