Karl Raynard Coleman passed away peacefully on Thursday September 20, 2018. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on February 25, 1962, and remained a lifelong resident. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1981 and enlisted in the United States Navy soon after graduation. While serving in the Navy, Karl worked as a Radioman. His choice to serve in the Navy and train on the radio may have been predestined as Karl loved to be on the water, loved fishing, and talking on his CB Radio (“Night Owl” was his handle). After the military, Karl returned to Springfield and resumed working for his high school employer, Stop & Shop. He also worked as a security officer for several businesses in the area. Although Karl was very private, he was a member of the American Legion and volunteered for the Stone Soul Picnic. Growing up, he learned to play drums (Indian Orchard), and even played conga drums for a short stint with the Hatchett Uhuru Drummers. Karl is survived by his son Karl Evans (Lorraine, mother of “Little Karl”); parents Louis and Octavia Coleman; siblings Kenneth and DC (Thomas Clark, husband); nephews Csar and Toor Clark; Grandmother Willie Lee McGhee; aunts and uncles: Ben McGhee, Jr (Callie), Mattie Jenkins (Jim), Addie McGhee, William McGhee (Donna), Pia McGhee, Ed Moss (Ronita), Regina Moss, Louise Patton (Ray), and Johnny Moss; too many loving cousins to name; and many true friends from back in the day.
