Rev. Leander Smith Obituary

Reverend Leander Jerome Smith, 77, Associate Minister of Zion Community Baptist Church, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Smyrna, DE, he moved to Springfield in 1980 and pastored at St. Mark's C.M.E. Church for many years. He also worked as a supervisor at Westover Job Corps. Pre-deceased by his parents, Willie J. Martin and Addie G. (Smith) Martin, his wife, Audrey (Murphy) Smith, and two sisters, Sylvia Boome and Idell Watts, Rev. Smith leaves two sons, Andre and Jerome Smith (and Dyann); two daughters, Rashon Whittaker and Sha'Kenya Whittaker, all of Bridgeport, CT; three siblings, Kevin Martin of El Paso, TX, and twins, Carl Martin of Woodside, DE and Karen Brown of Felton, DE; and three grandchildren. Calling hours are 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Community Baptist Church 1140 Roosevelt Ave., followed by the funeral at 11.
