Walter Roosevelt Tait, 63, also known as "Walt” of Marion St., departed this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Dover, DE, he was the son of Walter Tait Jr. and Nancy L. (Fullman) Tait and lived in Springfield since 1962. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ and the Mens' Ministry. He was also a Mason, Shriner, and member of the Order of The Eastern Star, having served as Deputy Grand Master, Worshipful Master of Lodge #30, Past Potentate of Suez Temple of Shriners, a member of The Royal Arch Masons, and Past Worthy Patron of Sumner Chapter #5, Order of the Eastern Star. Pre-deceased by his father and a brother, Maurice Tait, Walter is survived by a daughter Nykia Tait of Charlotte, NC; his mother, Nancy Tait of Springfield; two brothers, Wayne Tait of Springfield and Jerry Tait of Boston, MA; two sisters, Patricia Franklin (and Jasper) of Bloomfield, CT and Clysteen Tait of Springfield; and five grandchildren. The calling hour is 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, 1430 Carew St. followed by the funeral at noon with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
