Dora Griner Obituary

Dora Griner, 92, of 34 Elsie Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Saturday March 14, 2020 at Heritage Hall West Nursing Home in Agawam, Massachusetts.

Dora Griner was born in Baxley, GA on May 4, 1927 to Samuel and Dora Warrick and she was one of thirteen children. She received her formal education in Baxley, GA.  While in Baxley GA she married James Griner and they had six children, Samella, Doreatha, Region, Joann, Gwendolyn, and Henry. As an adult she relocated to Springfield Massachusetts to be with her family that had moved to the East Coast where she continued to live for over 70 years.

In Springfield, Massachusetts she worked various jobs to support the family including babysitting for family and most of the neighborhood children that considered her to be their “Grandmother” Dora enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones where she spent a lot of time cooking meals that everyone came by to share in. They loved her delicious combination of foods and desserts.  Dora made sure that no one went hungry or needed a place to stay because she took care of everyone like they were her own children.

Dora joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she participated in many community programs.  She worked on the Usher Board and Nurses Unit. Dora helped along with other members to oversee Church events.

She also leaves her Sisters Gladys Brantley (Philadelphia, PA) and Mary Jackson (Springfield, MA); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and in-laws, and many, many friends to cherish her memories.
