Priscilla Scruggs Obituary

Priscilla Ann (Darby) Scruggs 71, formerly of Springfield Ma, passed away on Wednesday September 25, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center.  Born in Conway SC, she was the daughter of the late Hattie Gasque-Darby and the late Roy Darby.  Priscilla graduated from Whittemore High school in Conway  South Carolina May 1966. Priscilla joined the Church of the Living God in 1969 at  22 King Street, Springfield Ma, under the late Bishop WJ Marshall.  Priscilla also joined the choir within the same year of 1969. Priscilla received the baptism of the holy ghost February 19, 1974 during the revival of the late Elder Louise Wimbish. Priscilla served as the president of the CLG choir for 10 years, Junior missionary department, also assisted the Marshall ensemble for a short time.  Priscilla was the assistant church secretary and head of the sick/shut-in ministry and faithfully served on the choir. Priscilla was also head of the food committee.  Priscilla was a faithful member, who served on the mother’s board.  She loved the Lord as well as her church. Priscilla was known as “Cill” to her family, friends and also for her giving and caring heart.  Priscilla was known for her beautiful singing voice that blessed the souls of many.  Priscilla loved to cook, with her specialty of baking homemade cakes.  Priscilla attended MCDI which she received certification as a certified Physical Therapist Assistant.  Her certification allowed her to become employed in different hospitals and nursing homes throughout the city.  For a number of years Priscilla worked as a cook in the springfield Technical High school.  She also worked as a crossing guard and bus monitor.  Later she became a licensed home day care provider, ages newborn to child aged school years.  Priscilla cared for a number of children who became dear to her heart.   She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 47 years Rhea V.Scruggs Sr.  She leaves her​ beloved children​: Mariesca C. Darby Scruggs  and Son Rhea V.Scruggs Jr both of Springfield, Ma. Siblings sisters: ​(Late) Mrs. Elouise Wimbish, (late) Mrs. Dollie Lou Beaty, Mrs. Cecilia J. Bennett, Mrs. Jacquelyn Johnson, Cousin/sister Mother Edna L. Burrowes, Deaconess Doris G. Epps, Evang. Carrie Clemonts, Sister in-law Mrs.Sherry (Foley)Taft Spiritual Parents of 43 +years,whom she loved very deeply Deacon Earl Crenshaw and Minister Mary Crenshaw. Brothers:  Deacon Ralph Williams, (late)Mr. Bill Smith, (late) Mr. Joseph-Robinson, Mr. Jacob Davis, Mr. Dennis Crenshaw, Mr. Steve Crenshaw, Brother in-law Mr. Kelvin Wimbish. Grandchildren:  Minister Kendall Darby (wife Niya Burt-Darby), Govan E. Darby-Morales, Yaisa S. Torres, Jazzielee L. Terry.  Nieces: Dr. Degwanda Beaty, Mrs, Loretta Bakari-Baldwin, Ms. Cheryse Page, Ms. Deborah Bailey, Ms. April Davis, Ms. Tracey Bennett, Mrs.Valerie Cypress Nephews: Mr. Gregory (Chyenne) Williams, Arnez Bennett, Rev. Kelvin Wimbish, Tierrell Dixon-Hughes, Godson Dr. Christopher S. Lathan Special cousins and family:  Ms. Arclincia Cooke, Deaconess Mary (Emmett) Craddock, Deacon Anthony (Kim) Cooke, Mrs. Lanita (Kevin) Eady, Mr. Lee(Lisa) Lathan Jr., Mr. John Long, Ms. Sabrina Pretti, Ms. Arlene Davis, the Clemonts family, Ms.Lillian Murray and family 
 
Special thanks to Priscilla’s care takers Ms. Anna Soto and Ms. Yvette The family would like to acknowledge  special appreciation to the nurses at Baystate Medical Center 5th floor Cardiac Unit. Priscilla leaves many other dear relatives and friends stretching from Conway SC to Springfield Ma and beyond. Priscilla rests in heaven with her (cousins/best friends) Deaconess Nettie C. Lathan and Minister.Gwynette S. Long. They called themselves “the singing Sugar Babies”, because they all had diabetes at the same time !!
