Alberta Mitchell Obituary

Alberta (Johnson) Mitchell, 87, of Springfield, Massachusetts, peacefully transitioned into the arms of God on Saturday, December 18, 2021.  Born on April 22, 1934, in Madison County, Georgia, Alberta was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Frank Johnson.  Alberta was predeceased by her sister, Ella Mae Johnson, by her loving daughter, Lisa (Mitchell) Plasse, along with her nephew, Craig Williams.

Alberta will be greatly missed by a sister, Hattie Goolsby of Tempe Arizona, with whom she took many trips and spent many hours talking on the phone;   a brother, Frank Johnson and his wife Patricia of Springfield;  two faithful daughters, Deborah D. Burt and her husband, Mister D. Burt of Springfield, and Casandra Mitchell;  a son-in-law, Richard Plasse of Naugatuck, CT, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.  Alberta is also survived by four grandchildren, Dominque Burt of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Darryl Sims of Springfield, Byran Mitchell and his wife Ania of Middletown, CT, and Theresa Plasse of Naugatuck, CT.  Alberta also has five beautiful great-grandchildren, two of which are born to Bryan and his loving wife Ania, named Caleb and Sierra and three born to Theresa named Zariah, Janiah, and Javaughn.

Alberta moved to Springfield 60 years ago and remained a proud citizen of the City of Homes until her passing.  Alberta was a lifelong believer in God and a member of Evangelical Covenant Church.

Alberta retired from Monson Developmental Center after thirty years of outstanding service, she also worked many years at Reeds Landing.

Alberta was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who enjoyed spending time with loved ones, especially during the holidays.  Alberta loved time she spent at the Greenleaf Community Center as she participated in the various activities and events offered at the center.

Special mention to Casandra Mitchell who completely dedicated and totally committed to mother’s welfare during the last several months when Alberta’s health was failing.  Casandra was at her mother’s side 24/7, spent countless hours in emergency rooms, hospital stays and rehabilitation centers.

Alberta will be greatly missed by those family members and friends who were blessed to cross her life’s path on her heavenly journey and ultimate destination to be reunited with those who took this journey before Alberta and are waiting for her blessed arrival so they can sit at God’s table of joy and peace.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 915 Plumtree Road, Springfield, MA.
