Alice Dixon Obituary

Alice Faye (Dessasure) Dixon, 75, of Three Rivers, MA, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Mercy Medical Center, after a very long, brave, and courageous battle with cancer.

Alice was born in Camden, South Carolina, the third of nine children, beloved daughter of Esther Lucille (Moss) Slater and Evans Dessasure, Sr. She grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Technical High School. Prior to retiring, she worked passionately as a Residential Supervisor for the Department of Developmental Services for more than 30 years caring for adults with special needs. After retirement, she continued to provide loving assistance, respite and companionship to adults in need of care. Furthermore, she provided foster care services dedicating love, educational support, emotional support, and behavioral management for children making a gateway to rehabilitate and connect them with their families. Alice was known as one who never turned away a person in crisis or need.

Alice had a strong musical voice and sang professionally throughout the city in her earlier years. One of her favorite pastimes was going to the casinos with her daughter and many friends. Most of all, Alice loved being a part of a large family. During her retirement and as a grandmother, she always supported all of her grandchildren to be the happiest, most successful versions of themselves.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Milene Dixon-Willoughby, Virginia Lee (Dixon) Mathis (husband Tyrone Mathis), Kimberly Anne Ciprian (husband Mervin J. Ciprian-Sanchez) all of Springfield; two brothers Kevin M. Slater of Springfield and Duane A. Slater (wife Katara Slater) of Kissimmee, FL, two sisters Sharon Dessasure of Knoxville, TN and Belinda (Slater) Archie (husband Vernal Archie) of Poinciana, FL, six beloved grandchildren Amani O. Smith, Demetri N.B. Smith, Tyrone Mathis III, Hunter Mathis, Adelynn Esther Ciprian and Castiel J. Ciprian, a host of nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Barry Dessasure, Evans Dessasure Jr. and Marvin Raye Slater, sister Virginia Dessasure, and nephew Barry Davis.

In lieu of funeral services, and at Alice's request, donations may be made in her memory to the Sister Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center.
