Anita F. Cope, 93, daughter of the late Leslie Maria (Golson) and the late Perry Gardner Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by family, carrying her signature joking wit with her until the moment Jesus called her home.
Anita dedicated part of her life to working with Springfield Public Schools, where she helped shape and guide young minds with the same care and wisdom she gave so freely to her own family. Her influence reached far beyond her home, touching countless lives in her community.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and matriarch, Anita was the proud parent of nine children. She is predeceased by two brothers, Perry Gardner Jr. and Norman Gardner, and two daughters, Carol Cope Ward and Lois Cope. She leaves to cherish her memory, seven children, Francene Cope Clinton (and William), Lesley Cope, Edwin Cope Jr. (and Sheri), Loren Green, Sheree Cope (and Willie), Prez Cope Sr., and Aaron Cope Sr.; two bonus daughters, Phanee Johnson and Brenda Evans; along with her many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed to have her in their lives.
Known for her strength, warmth, and sharp sense of humor, Anita was truly the heart of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and togetherness that will continue to live on through generations.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Plumtree Church (formerly Evangelical Covenant Church), 915 Plumtree Road, Springfield, MA, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.
