Barbara Hill, 74, of Springfield, Massachusetts, gained her wings on June 20, 2022, from natural causes. She was born on April 9, 1948, to the late Tom and Annie Lee Hill (Owens) in Fort Valley, Georgia. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Willie Frank Hill and Charlie Lee Hill; a granddaughter, Angel Deniese Green; three nephews, Harry F. Moses, Robert Hill, and Craig Hill; and a niece, Anne Marie Dykes. She leaves behind a daughter, Carsandra (Hill-Steed) Hill-Green (and her husband, Reverend Terry T. Green Sr.); two brothers, Albert Hill (Betty Ann Hill) Dykes of Springfield, Thomas Hill of Florida; four sisters, Ola Mae Moses, Betty Hill, Ruby Hill and Lillian Hill, all of Springfield; a lifelong partner and friend, Martin R. Steed of Springfield; and her fur baby, Miss Kitty Marie.
She attended H. A. Hunt High School in Fort Valley, Georgia. She frequented First Baptist Church with her family for services and church gatherings. In 1966, Barbara joined Ola and Betty in Springfield where shortly after, she met her partner and longlife friend, Martin. Barbara held various jobs until she became a professional housekeeper at Western New England College (University). She worked in the housekeeping department until she took an early retirement in 1993.
Barbara’s favorite activities were playing cards, crossword puzzles, coloring, scratch tickets, playing lottery numbers, video games, watching old tv shows, cooking, entertaining, and hosting parties and family dinners. She was most passionate about family gatherings, the casino, participating in activities at the dialysis center, and animal rescues, especially cats. She took pride in being a cat mom.
Over the years, Barbara battled many health issues. She took on her illness with courage, strength, and resilience. She fought a good fight to the end.
A special heartfelt thank you to the entire staff and doctors at Heritage Hall Dialysis Center for the love and care you gave my mom over the years. She loved each and everyone of you. You were her second family and I will miss hearing all the stories about her day with you all. I will be forever grateful to you all. Also special thanks to the Mason Square Clinic, Dr. Borden and the Nephrology team. Love, Carsandra.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 11 N. Main Street, South Hadley, MA. Visiting hours will be 10 a.m. to noon. The family requests that everyone wear a mask
