Bennie M. Brice of Springfield, MA, transitioned to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Bennie was the daughter of the late Benny Camp and Eloise Camp (Husky). Bennie was born on June 8, 1948, in Gaffney, South Carolina. Bennie was the youngest girl of 6 children. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Stanard (Joe) Camp, Romie (June) Camp, and B.C. Camp ll, two sisters, Anderson Camp and Macie (Peggy) Mayes, a niece she loved as her own, Sarah (Peanut) Camp, as well as her forever fur baby, Dakota. Bennie graduated from Gaffney High School at the age of 16. After graduation she enlisted in the United State Army during the Vietnam War (stateside) as a nurse’s aide. She was discharged with honor in February of 1968.
Bennie relocated to Springfield, MA in 1972. Bennie studied machinery at MCDI and later worked for many years as a machinist at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. She then transferred to Tyco Paper Company in West Springfield where she later retired. After retirement, she continued to serve as a volunteer within the city of Springfield. Bennie enjoyed cooking and had a heart of gold. Her biggest joy was helping others. As a sister, aunt, wife, mother, or just a friend, she was a great listener. She was always there when you needed someone to talk to. Bennie was an active member of Bethany Assembly of God in Agawam, MA, where she was a Sunday School teacher for the young 3 and 4 year-olds (boy did she love those kids).
Left to cherish her beautiful smile is her husband of 23 years, John Brice of Springfield; her daughter, Robbin Denise Ellington of Springfield; her grandson, Anthony Jordan Ellington-Viner (Jasmine); two great-grands, Isaiah and Sadiyha, all of Springfield; a great-nephew, Devonte Camp of Springfield, currently serving in the United States Navy; her niece/sister, Ella Bonner of Gaffney South Carolina; her forever son-in-law, Rodney E. Pennamon of Lawrenceville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
