Bernice C. (Watkins) Wray, 76, 0f 1477 Roosevelt Ave., Springfield, MA. departed this life on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center after an illness.
Born in Hull, Georgia to the late Ruby Sorrells and Jap Watkins, Bernice arrived in Springfield at the age of 12 and attended Springfield Public Schools.
Bernice was a proud member of New Creation Discipleship Ministeries under the direction of Bishop Charles W. Pink and Overseer Dorothy Pink whom she dearly loved. There she was honored to serve on the Usher Board and Nominating Committee and was also as a member of The United Ushers.
During her career Bernice was employed at J.W. Sickles and Milton Bradley. She also volunteered through the Urban League's Foster Grandparent Program and was known as "Grandma" by the children.
Bernice leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Gwendolyn and Delphine Wray and a son Germaine Wray all of Springfield, MA; two favorite cousins Melvin Sims of Jersey City, NJ and Rufus and Vivian Sorrells of NC who would travel to Massachusetts to visit her frequently. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other extended family members and many friends. She was predeceased by her son Johnny Lee Wray.
The public viewing will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service at Noon, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
