We honor the memory and life of Bobby Lee Smith, 63, of 256 Pleasant Street, Northampton, who departed this life on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born in Springfield on July 1, 1956, he was the son of Annie Mae (Wingfield) Smith and Will Henry smith. Bobby had been employed as an aircraft repairman for the Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies, Howard Hughes Air Craft and had also been a former recruiter for the US Airforce. Later he worked construction at the Eastfield Mall and comforted others as a Personal Care Attendant. Not long ago, Bobby joined the Northernaires Gospel Singers of Springfield, MA and was known as the second Teddy Pendergrass due to his unique voice. As a member of the Dance Group "Static One" which performed on the East Coast in New York, Boston and the Springfield Harambee, he was given the nickname "Light and Lively, so-named by his friends Gerald Shepard (aka Jay-Bone), Kevin Holly (aka "Hollywood", Woodrow Lipkins and Leonard Young, aka "Fly Guy." Predeceased by his parents Annie Mae Wingfield Smith and Will Henry Smith, his sister Deloris (Smith) Ramsey and a niece Yolanda Smith, he leaves to mourn his passing, five children Lakia Boyd of Springfield; four sons Adonis Smith, Bobby Smith Jr., Angelo Privette and Marcus Smith; his sister Shirley Smith Mullen; three brothers Michael Wingfield of Chicopee,MA, Willie Smith and Vernon Welch all of Springfield; a longtime girlfriend Esther Cosby of Northampton; 2 mothers-in-law Mrs. Chatty (Davis) Reves and Mrs. Wanda Otey Roberson of Springfield; a god-sister April Milner, a special niece Vanya Tate of New London, CT and Shavonna Williams of Springfield; his nephews Michael Smith, Lavon Pemberton and Michael Wingfield Jr. all of Springfield; 11 grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends too numerous to mention. Services are private and burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
