Bruce Stanley Jones, “Kilam” 64, of King Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away on December 10, 2024, at home.
Bruce was born in Springfield the beloved son of Charles W. Jones and Margaret B. (Cogman) Jones and remained a lifelong Springfield resident with the exception of his college years when he attended Grambling State University resulting from his high performance on The High School of Commerce Varsity football team, where he was awarded a football scholarship to Grambling State University.
When Bruce “Kilam” as he was referred to by many who knew and loved him, returned to Springfield, he honed other skills, his ability to listen intently without judgement and to always have an affirmation for family and friends. He worked for Continental Cable Company, PVTA as a driver and finally as a supervisor at Center for Human Development Juvenile Detention Center for more than ten years, retiring in 2020.
Pre-deceased by three brothers, Henry Douglas Cogman, Craig Cogman, and Charles E. Lynch Sr. and two sisters, Anita Jean Roberson and Pamela Cogman, he is survived by his children, Tanasia Jones, Radasia L. Burston, Kamaishia Q. Burston, and Tyasha L. Burston, all of Springfield, MA; a brother, Ronald Jones of Milan, Italy; a sister, Karen Smith of Springfield; four grandchildren, Kiarah Jones, Samarah Gibbons, Kylah Jones, and Prahgress Gibson; the mother of his children, Carolyn Burston; and many cousins and other extended relatives to share his memories.
The public is invited to share memories with his family at a memorial service on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Harrell Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m.
