Buster Johnson, Jr. was born on June 14, 1952, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Elder Buster Johnson Sr. and Missionary Betty Johnson. He was known affectionately by many as "Papa".
Papa worked as an electrician and took pride in training apprentices, several of whom went on to become master builders and electricians. Through his work, he shared skill, knowledge, and guidance that impacted lives. In his personal time, singing, board games, and playing cards were among some of his simple pleasures.
Papa peacefully transitioned on January 22, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father, Elder Buster Johnson Sr.; his oldest daughter, Shawna Johnson; and his grandson, Dennis Nyero James.
He is survived by his daughter, Katara (Richard) Robinson; his son, Jovan Johnson; his mother, Missionary Betty Johnson; his sister, Betty (Willie) Fryar; ten grandchildren; Tatiana (Raymond) Torres, Matthew James, Kiara Johnson-Ware, Malaysia, Nykiesha, Maryah, Sharon, Israel, Malachi, and Ricky Robinson, eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and a host of cousins, friends, and loved ones to cherish his memory.
