It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Knight on January 8th, 2024. Born in Coy, Alabama, Charles was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, brother, and grandfather. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Charles is survived by his former wife and caretaker, Doreen Cook, with whom he shared a daughter, Kierra Knight of Springfield, MA. He also leaves behind his son, Charles Hill of Mobile, Alabama, and three stepdaughters, Lashawna Lewis, of Springfield, MA, Deanna Cook, of Springfield, MA, and Tianna Cook, of Hyattsville, Maryland. Charles was predeceased by his mother, Juanita Sanders, and is survived by his brothers, Gerald Sanders, Anthony Sanders, Johnny Sanders, George Sanders, and a sister, Lorie Wells. He also leaves behind a special cousin, Julia Wells.
He will also be remembered by his nine adoring grandchildren. Throughout his life, Charles dedicated himself to demanding work and helping others. He spent more than two decades working as a construction laborer and happily took on odd jobs for friends and family. Charles was a member of St. John's Congregation Church in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he volunteered at their Food Bank, providing assistance and distributing bags of food for people in need. Outside of work, Charles had a passion for his cars. He loved tinkering with his own vehicle, adding rims, tints, and loudspeaker systems. Whether it was the latest hip hop tracks or timeless classics, you could always find Charles blasting music as he went about his day. His favorite go-to meal was salmon patties and grits, which he could eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
A Homegoing ceremony honoring Charles's life will be held on June 7th, 2024, at 11 am, at Harrell Funeral Home, located at 355 St. James Ave, Springfield, MA. Following the service, a repast will be held at Cedars Banquet Facility, situated at 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, Massachusetts. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together, share stories, and celebrate the life of a remarkable man.
Charles will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter, passion for music, and love of scary movies.
May his soul finally rest in eternal peace.
