David Lyons Obituary

David, 56, affectionately known as “Dave or Lyons”, was born January 8th, 1964, in New York City.  He earned his wings on April 13, 2020, with is loving wife by his side.  David was the youngest of eight children born to the late George Lyons and Mary Emma Hawkins. David attended local school in New York City, graduating from Wadleigh Secondary School For The Performing & Visual Arts.  Shortly after high school, he joined in union with Dorrie Lyons and to this union two children were born, Daniel and David Lyons.  His first job held was with Mr. Brown, owner of the House of Styles Clothing Shop at 125th between Lenox & 5th Avenue., New York City. David moved to Springfield, Mass. in 1987 and held various jobs.  It was at the Bank of New England where he met the late David Jones Jr.  He also worked at Digital Equipment Corp. and the Springfield Action Commission before joining the Department of Correction.  He worked at DOC Enfield Medium CT, for 20 years, retiring in 2016.  Retirement was short-lived and he began working in Security for GS4 Security Company CT.  His final place of employment ended this summer with Center For Human Development (CHD).  He was able to follow his passion for working with tools and painting, carpentry and plumbing.  David was also known for remodeling his home and adding special touches to the homes of his friends with his special carpentry talents!  David was a member of Zion Community Baptist Church.  He served as the Chaplin of the Usher Board, a member of the Male Chorus, and held the office of Secretary on the Men of Valor Men’s Ministry.

David enjoyed hosting social gatherings in his home for the family.  He loved having his seasonal opening of the “park (his backyard)” for the children.  He loved to have a reason to cook something, he considered himself a “Chef” ... the family loved knowing he was going to barbeque, fry fish, shrimp, or cook his signature fried chicken and fries! David always looked forward to being his wife’s private tour guide, for the last 19 years they frequented New York City and other places.  These memories will live forever in her heart!

David was pre-deceased by his brother, Michael and sisters, Patricia and Belinda Hawkins.  David leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Tarra H. Jones Lyons;  his mother, 96 years young - Mary Emma Hawkins, aka “Mable”;  sons, David Sr. and Daniel Lyons, both of New York City;  step-sons, Tyrone Bryant Jr. and Edward Hall Jr.;  a godson, Tyrese M. Phillips, all of Springfield, Mass;  sisters, Gloria (and Richard) Feres, Rosalind Gaskins, Sharon Nathaniel;  a brother, Joseph (and Tammy) Simmons, all of New York City;  mother-in-law, Nancy L. Jones Callands;  sister-in-law, Laureen M. Jones;  and brother-in-law, David Jones III. David leaves two grandchildren; Daniella and Dayjon Lyons of New York City and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to mourn his leaving.

Private services and burial arrangements were held at the convenience of the family due to COVID-19.  A memorial service will be held at a later date with a public announcement.
