Deaconess Doris Hill-Porter slipped away to rest on Thursday September 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sneads, Florida on February 3, 1934, to the late June and Idelia (Williams) Hill. Sister Hill dedicated her life to Christ many years ago at Macedonia Church in Sneads, Fl. She was married to the late Charles H. Porter. After relocating to Springfield in 1956 she was determined to work hard and make a difference for her children. Having never graduated from High School she instilled in her children the importance of education making sure they graduate and pursue their dreams. She did pursue studies in sewing and graduated from Trade School. Sister Hill, as she was known by her church family, was employed at Westover Knitting Mills for many years until they closed. She then worked at Smith & Wesson until being laid off and later went on to work at K&M Electronics until retiring in 1996. She was always a consistent and diligent worker never forgetting where she came from. Deaconess Hill was a dedicated and a Faithful Member of Holy Trinity COGIC for over fifty years serving on the Deaconess Board, Hospitality Committee, Pastor’s Aide Committee and Senior Usher Board. She was Predeceased by her Son Robert Porter, 6 Brothers Erma, Lester, Roy, June, Louis, Lonnie and 3 Sisters, Corine, Ruby, Martha. She truly will be missed by her son Charles Porter, his wife (Margaret), and her daughter Tammy Porter. Her Grandchildren, Dottie, Robert, Jacqueline, Kiesha, Charles Jr, Kianna, Fakiesha, Shakara, fifteen great Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandchild. She also leaves her siblings Nelson Hill (Dorothy) of Jacksonville, Florida, Addison Hill (Jean) of Mattapan, Ma, Donnie Hill ( Elaine) of Plainfield, NJ. Ramzy Hill (Lillie Mae), Moses Hill, Mary Moore (Willie) all of Spfld, Ma, Joe Cobb of Clearwater, FL, Jerry Cobb of Columbus,Ga, and Therila Mae Stinson of Carson, Ca. She also leaves a host of niece’s, nephews, other relatives and friends. Calling hours are Thursday September 27, 7pm - 9pm with the funeral following on Friday at Holy Trinity COGIC 10am - 11am, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.
