Dorothy M. Brown

  Dorothy M. Brown, age 91, of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  

 Born and raised in Jamaica, Dorothy moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she met Juan, the love of her life and husband of 57 years.  

 Dorothy earned a Master’s Degree in Gerontology and was a passionate advocate for Springfield’s senior citizens, retiring as the Director of the Mason Square Senior Center after a life dedicated to community service.  

 Dorothy loved traveling with Juan, especially the cruises, and enjoyed the many trips they often organized with friends and family.  

 The daughter of the late Jasper Gordon and Violette Clare, and step-mother Viola Jolly, she was the sister of the late Vernon Daley, Cynthia Boyce, Ronald Price, and Kathleen Chang.

 Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Brown.  She is survived by her husband Juan Brown, and daughters, Ingrid Tolland (and husband Brian) and Zoila Truesdale (and husband Bill).  She is the beloved grandmother of Nicholas, Victoria, Emily, Sarah, and Jessica;  great-grandmother of Kaiden, Mia, and Avianna;  and sister-in-law to Yolanda Daley.

 Dorothy was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

 A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 25, at Christ Church Cathedral, 35 Chestnut St, Springfield, MA.  The visitation will be from 10:00-12:00 PM, followed by services at noon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Dorothy's name to:  Open Pantry, your local homeless shelter, or the Youth Group at Christ Church Cathedral.
