Dorothy Jean (Stephens) Mendenhall, 87, of Bristol Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, on Monday, January 28, 1935, she was a daughter of the late David Stephens and the late Josephine (Wright) Stephens.
She graduated from Sterling High School in Greenville, South Carolina and was a longtime employee at Digital Equipment Corporation (retired). A sixty-eight year resident of Springfield, Dorothy was a dedicated member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the Mt. Calvary Mass Choir and worked with the Mt. Calvary Angelic Choir for over forty years. She was also a member of recording artists The Lawrence A. Bagwell Chorale.
Dorothy is pre-deceased by her husband, Latimore Calvin Mendenhall; three sisters, Mary Frances Stephens, Leola White, and Rebecca Hunter; and two sons, Tony Mendenhall and Eric Stephens. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Sabrina Mendenhall of Springfield; two sisters, Peggy Bowling-Bates of Springfield and Marie Smith of Monroe, North Carolina; and host of other relatives and friends.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 17 John Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, Massachusetts.
