Elijah Ward Obituary

 Elijah Ward, 89, of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Sixteen Acres Healthcare Center in Springfield. 

 Born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Later, Mr. Ward moved to the Springfield area in 1961 and was employed by Hulmes Transportation for many years.  A former member of Garner A.M.E. Zion Church, he also attended Spring of Hope C.O.G.I.C.  Pre-deceased by his mother, Garthro Ward, he is survived by a son, Gregg Bennefield Sr. of West Springfield;  two grandchildren, Gregg Bennefield Jr. of Springfield and Chantz Bennefield of West Springfield;  two adopted grandchildren, Davon Smith and Amber Rose Lanier;  and other family and friends. 

 The calling hour is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spring of Hope C.O.G.I.C., 35 Alden St., followed by the funeral at 12.  Interment with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
