Obituary

  Essie Loraine Thaxton Springfield Essie Loraine (Armstrong) Thaxton, age 93, a long-time resident of Springfield MA departed this life on Monday February 27, 2023. She was the youngest child born to Sarah (Williams) and Vernon Armstrong in Gulfport MS. Her interests included cooking, sewing, gardening, singing, traveling and reading.

  The widow of Osborne G. Thaxton, she was predeceased by son Anthony "Tony" Davies and daughters Kadijah Nadir and Benita Thaxton Davey. Essie is survived by her children Tairah Shah of Carrollton TX, Robert (Jeanette) Thaxton of Charlotte NC, Tamerlane Thaxton-Harris of Rhome TX and Terekah Thaxton of Springfield MA; grand-children Azki Shah II, Robert Franklin, Lawrence Robie II, Adam Harris, Alexander Davey, Lauren Roulston, Ariadne Davey, and Sarah Davey; several great-grandchildren and a wealth of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Her passing is also mourned by Wendy Tolbert and Helen Johnson.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Harrell Funeral Home, 355 St James Ave, Springfield MA.
