Evelyn McQueen Obituary

Evelyn Warnetta (Sharpe) McQueen was born September 8, 1944 in DeLand, Florida to James C. Sharpe, Sr. and Evelyn L.(Green) Sharpe. She was the oldest of eight children. Evelyn was predeceased by her father James C. Sharpe, SR. her brother James C. Sharpe, Jr. and her mother Evelyn L. (Green) Sharpe. Evelyn attended St. Pius X High School in Savannah, Ga., Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, and graduated with her Bachelors Degree from Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Ma. She then pursued her career in teaching at Cathedral Elementary School for 10 years. She then went on to teach at Putnam High School for approx. 35 years and retired from the Springfield. School Dept. a few years ago. Evelyn was a member of the Macedonia Church of God in Christ, Springfield,MA, under the leadership of the late Bishop Bryant Robinson, Sr., now under the present Bishop Bryant Robinson, Jr.

She served in numerous capacities as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Director and Director of the Children’s Christmas programs. She also served as a member of the Mothers Board as well a member of the Macedonia choir for many years. Evelyn was a loyal, selfless and dedicated person to her family, friends and church. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 39 years George E. McQueen. She also leaves behind six siblings Irene Westbrook, of Springfield, MA, Carol Hetland, of Spanaway,WA, Wanda Rivera, of Springfield,MA., Avery Sharpe-wife (Cheryl) of Plainfield, MA., Benita Witherspoon-husband(Eric) of Merrimack,NH and Kevin Sharpe-wife (Kolu) of Springfield,MA. Her dear friends, Mary Lee Lockett and Donna Templeton. A host of loved ones, relatives and friends.
