Evins "Cephas" Brantley, 90, of Dunmoreland St., Springfield, departed this life on Sunday, June 11, 2023. "Cephas" was born in Garnett, South Carolina on August 5, 1932 to Murray Brantley and Beatrice (Smalls). He made Springfield, MA his home since 1950 where he practiced his trade as a general contractor/plumber with great acuity.
He was an active member of Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church serving faithfully as Elder, Deacon and as Chairman of the Building Committee. Not only Cephas devote his time to his family and his church, he contributed to his community as a member of The Black Men of Greater Springfield.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Bernice (Polite) Brantley, his legacy continues thru his sons John C. Brantley (and Gloria J.) of Pooler, GA, and Charles E. Brantley of Springfield,MA, his two daughters Vivian A. Brantley and Ruth E. Brantley-Campbell , two brothers Daniel Jethro Brantley and Peter Leroy Brantley, and two sisters Isabel Hosten all of Springfield, MA. , seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, sons "Heavy" Evans C. Brantley, and Jeffery D. Brantley, a brother John Murray and two sisters Bessie Wilkins and Inez Gadsen.
Calling hour is 9-10 a.m.Thursday at Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church, 797 State Street followed by the funeral at 10 with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
