Gladys Leggett, 76, of Springfield, MA, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center.
Born in Lawndale, North Carolina, Gladys was a daughter of the late Edgar Wray Sr. and Ruth (Maddox) Wray.
Gladys moved to Springfield, MA, in 1967 where she soon started her life as one of the BEST CNA’s that anyone could ask for in which she held this career until she retired. Gladys always got credited by her patient’s family that they appreciated the care she has given their loved ones. Gladys was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and later became a member of the St. John’s Congregational Church.
Gladys was the mom of three children, Sonya Johnson, Tarsha Johnson-Kasilo, and David Leggett Jr. Gladys loved her children and worked very hard to ensure they had a good life along with a good education.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband, David Leggett Sr., daughter, Sonya Johnson, and siblings, Fannie M. Maddox, Franklin Maddox, Edgar Wray Jr., and Steve Wray. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Tarsha Johnson-Kasilo (Wilfred Kasilo), David Leggett Jr. (Bethany Leggett) and her step-son, whom she cherished, Clarence Major. Gladys also leaves behind her sisters, Mildred W. Waddell, Joyce W. Lawrence, Barbara W. Taylor, Diane W. Brown, Judy Wray, a brother, Milton Wray, and lots of other family and friends.
The calling hour is 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. John’s Congregational Church, followed by funeral services at noon, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
