Gwendolyn Wray, 58, of Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on September 1, 2021, at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her family. Gwendolyn was born on January 7, 1963, to the late Lee Russell and Bernice Wray.
Gwendolyn enjoyed playing cards (Pokeno and Bid Whist), cooking, having cookouts, attending NA functions, and spending time with her grandchildren. Gwen was a former member of St. John’s Congregational Church. Gwendolyn graduated from The High School of Commerce in 1980. She attended Springfield Technical Community College where she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. During her career, Gwendolyn was employed as a CNA, Direct Care Worker, and also as a Counselor. She loved helping and taking care of other people.
Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her memory, five children; Peter (Jessica) Wray of Northborough, MA, Shalina Wray of East Longmeadow, MA, Ebony Wray, Christopher Prophet, and Rashyne Prophet of Springfield, MA, one “other daughter'', Takisha Hinch of Chicopee, MA, and two stepchildren, Jabriel Pressley and Imani Pressley of Boston, MA. Gwendolyn is predeceased by her husband, Jerome Pressley and her brother, Johnny Wray and is survived by one brother, Germaine Wray (Amy) of Springfield, MA, and four sisters, Delphine Wray (Paul), of Springfield, MA, Alycia (Eric) Hill of Cotton Plant, MS, Angela (Allen) Christmas of Ripley, MS, and Antoinetta (Min. Rick) Colemen of Tupelo, MS, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, the father of her children, Christopher Prophet of Springfield, MA, and two godchildren Lakeisha Prophet of Springfield, MA and Chantel Smith of Columbia, SC, along with many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her two longtime best friends of over forty years Leola Jamison and Rosalind Jackson, a favorite cousin Regina Spears of Springfield, MA, and a host of family and friends. She will truly be missed.
The calling hour is 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Deliverance Center Ministries, 336 Springfield Street, in Springfield, followed by funeral services at 11:30, with burial in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
