Helen Whitaker

  Helen Whitaker, 81, of Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. 

  Born in Clinton (Sampson County), North Carolina, she was a daughter of Paul Whitaker and Cherry (Cooper) Whitaker.  Helen was a sixty-year resident of Springfield and earlier had been employed as a farm worker.  She enjoyed cooking, babysitting, cleaning, caring for her cat, playing cards, traveling, and returning to North Carolina for visits.

  Helen is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Williams;  a brother, Elijah Whitaker;  ten grandchildren;  fifteen great-grandchildren;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

  A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Harrell Funeral Home.
