Helese White Obituary

  Helese White (affectionally known as MOO MOO) 100, of Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2024 surrounded by her loving daughter, Pamela.

  Born in Smithfield, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Emma Smith White and the late John A. White Sr.

  Helese graduated from Johnson County Training High School in Smithfield and she attended the North Carolina College for Negros; now known as North Carolina Central in Durham, North Carolina.  She eventually moved to Springfield, MA and worked at Mass Mutual Insurance Company in the Group Pension and Underwriting Department.  Later, she relocated back to North Carolina to care for her father.  Also, she worked at the Employment Security, the Council on Aging, and the Health Department.  She was a faithful and active member of the St. Mark AME Church, and she was a Sunday School Teacher, and she sang in two choirs and served as the Women’s Day Captain.  She loved to travel and volunteer to serve on several community and church programs.  And she was the recipient of numerous awards for the work that she did.

  She is pre-deceased by three brothers, Doug Smith, William Joseph White, and John A. White, Jr., and four sisters, Katrina White, Annie Thomas, Merrian Johnson, and Vivian Sullivan.  She is survived by her only child, Pamela J. White of Springfield;  her nieces and nephews, Maxine Hunter of Smithfield, North Carolina, Debra A. Johnson of North Hollywood, California, Audrey J. Gilbreath of Katy, Texas, John A. White, III of Manassas, Virginia, and Michael R. White of Chalfont, PA, and a host of other relatives, and friends to cherish her memory and a life well lived.
