Horace "Rambo" Bacon Jr., 81, of Bristol St., departed this life on January 26, 2018. Born in Macintosh, GA, he was a son of Horace Bacon Sr. and Sarah D. (Baker) Bacon. A 60-year Springfield resident, he retired from The Republican newspaper in 2002, having worked as a machinist for many years. He was also a landscaper and a member of Greater Love COGIC. Mr. Bacon leaves his beloved wife, Blanche; two sons, HoraceBacon III and Malvin Bacon; a special son, Seymour Evans; two daughters, Sarah Smith-Asberry and Pauline Finch ( and Clarence); a niece, Patricia Williams; and a special daughter, Lizan Barnes; 3 brothers, John Bacon, Rodrick Bacon, and Robbie Bacon; 7 sisters, Eunice Walthour, Evelyn Jones, Ruby Winn, Mary Belle Johnson, Janice Jordan, Melody Bacon, and Leslie Anderson; a sister-in-law, Martha Bacon; a brother-in-law, Daniel Fleming; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Bacon Sr. and a sister, Sophronia Fleming. The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Friday at Macedonia COGIC, 213 Tinkham Rd., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. with burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
