Ida Canty

Ida Jones (Johnson) Canty, 97, of  12 Lawton Street, Springfield departed this life on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at her home surrounded by loving family.  Born in Royal, North Carolina, Ida was the daughter of Hattie (Credle) Johnson and Randolph Johnson.  Ida was a Springfield resident for the past 45 years who, along with her husband (the late) Thomas Lee Canty, successfully raised their children here.  She praised  and reflected on God's word as a member of Springfield Church of God and displayed the talents HE bestowed upon her thru her sewing, crocheting, garden and reading the bible.  To cherish her memory she leaves five children Clayton Johnson (and Roberta Johnson) , Thomas Canty Jr. (and Katrina Canty),  Prince Canty , Carolyn Rodriguez and Rosalyn Ali; four brothers Clyde Johnson, Harold Johnson, Bill Johnson, and Raphael Johnson and one sister Hattie Charlton;  14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, many other family members and friends.  The public calling hour is noon to 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Harrell Funeral Home,  however, the funeral service  will be private.  Mrs. Canty will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Thomas L. Canty at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
