Ida Mae (George) Smith, 82, wife of the late Clarence Smith and long time Springfield resident, departed this life on earth on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, surrounded by her loving children. Born June 14, 1938 in Uniontown, Alabama, to the late Leola (George) Mitchell and Elmore Sanders. She was lovingly raised by her mother and step-father Marshall Mitchell.
She was predeceased by her husband , parents, and step-father; a son Clarence Bernard Smith, her brother Leon Sanders, her grandson, John K. Smith and brothers-in-law James "Pim" Smith and Charles Smith, all of Springfield. Ida Mae Smith leaves her daughters Charlesetta Smith, Carol Smith and Jennifer (Clarke) Smith and a son Charles Smith all of Springfield; brothers in law John E. Smith and Earl Cunningham of Alabama; sisters in law Callie Mae Smith of Kentucky and Sherry Coon of Alabama and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives to honor her legacy. Family and friends are asked to gather for visiting hours from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Christian Cathedral, 205 Eastern Ave. in Springfield. Funeral services will be private on Friday. Burial at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam will be limited to immediate family only.
