Jimmy L. Winston, 70, of Springfield, MA, departed this life to join his Lord and Savior April 4, 2020 at Southeast Health Hospital in Dothan, AL. He was born July 14, 1949 in Samson, AL.
Jimmy joined the U.S. Marines in 1968 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Lance Corporal (LCPL), receiving a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was an avid dresser and a dedicated family man. Jimmy loved traveling and numerous sporting events. He enjoyed cooking, especially on the grill, and entertaining.
He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Robie Joanne (Sponnie) Winston; mother, Willie Maude (Edna Cox) Winston; a brother, Tyrone A. Cox; two sisters, Annette M. (Cox) Brace and Linda L. (Winston) Johnson. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memories three children, Aaron (Robin) Winston of Concord, NC, Tara Winston of Duluth, GA, and Shallum Winston of Dorthan, AL; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe E. Cox of Agawam, MA, and Steve A. (Karen) Winston of Springfield, MA; three sisters, Myra Bogard, Sherrie Thomas (Don) Edwards of Springfield, MA, and Tawanna (Howard) Lewis of Framingham, MA; a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, including his best friend Lonnie Andrews. Jimmy's interment was April 15, 2020, at the Veteran's Cemetery in Agawam, MA. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
