John T. Childers

  John Theodore Childers, 85, of Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. 

  Born in Selma, Alabama, he was a son of the late Mable Waters and the late Abner Childers Jr. and the widower of Gloria (Washington) Childers.  John was a longtime resident of Greater Springfield and had been employed as a truck driver.  He was a member of St. John’s Congregational Church, and he enjoyed rides with his motorcycle club. 

  John is survived by his longtime companion and girlfriend, Theresa L. Fuller;  four children, Rueben D. McNamara, John Childers Jr., Judith A. Childers, and Tanisha Scytkowski;  two bothers, Issac Childers and Robert Childers;  two sisters, Linda Childers and Shirley Petway;  six grandchildren, Sienna, Daijch, Julia, Sadech, Julia, and Rashaune;  and was the professor to his many other grandchildren and family members.

  The calling hour is 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 14, at Harrell Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at noon.
