John Mitchell Obituary

John Willie Mitchell, 79, of Springfield, MA departed this life on Sunday, September 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.  John was born to Willie and Trudie Mae Mitchell on March 2, 1941 in Watkinsville, Georgia.  He relocated to Springfield, MA. in 1962, where he lived until the Lord called him home.  A very industrious man not afraid of hard work, he had been employed by the former Monson State Hospital as well as Pennsylvania Truck Company, Jackson Security (at Hunter Place), other security positions  and Travel Time School Bus Company. 

   John enjoyed fishing, card playing , tv westerns, listening to the preached word, his cars and spending time with family especially his grandchildren.   John had served faithfully at  Grace Memorial Church of God In Christ under the leadership of  Pastor Michael Spruill and later became associated with Gardner Memorial AME Zion Church. 

John who was predeceased by his parents, his daughters Brenda and Lisa Mitchell and sister Eliza, leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 29 years Debra (Maness) Mitchell; daughters Debra Berk (and son-in-law Donald) of Wilbraham, Michelle Wesley (and son-in-and Walter), Cassandra and Trudy Mitchell all of Springfield, MA; sons Joshua Mitchell, Jeffery Styles, Fatina and  Esia King all of Springfield and Alex King of Millbury, MA; a brother James Mitchell of Palmer, MA;  17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, god-children, other extended family and many friends.  The calling hour will be 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Gardner Memorial AME Zion Church, 368 Bay Street,  followed by the funeral at 11.  Masks are required in order to attend.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
