Johnny Ray Hallums Sr. was born on December 12, 1948 to Wellborn and Janie Hallums in Greensville South Carolina. He attended and graduated from Sterling High School. Shortly thereafter, he migrated up North for better opportunities. He moved to New York and then relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts where he worked and lived out his life. Johnny enjoyed watching CNN, TMC (Turner Classic Movies), gardening, and coaching his son’s basketball and soccer teams. We can’t go without mentioning his love of suits. He was one sharp dressed man. Whether you knew as Johnny Ray, Ray, Uncle Ray, Coach Ray, Mr. Ray, JR, or a family favorite of Papa Smurf, he was unforgettable. Johnny departed this life on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. He was preceded by his parents along with his siblings, leaving one surviving brother William (Bob) Hallums of Greensville, South Carolina.
Johnny leaves behind his devoted and loving wife Diane Burton-Hallums, children Johnny Hallums Jr of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nicole Burton, Johnny Hallums-Burton, Alexandria (Melissa) Early all of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald Burton, and Raymond Burton of Springfield, Massachusetts, beautiful grandchildren whom he loved dearly and a of host nieces, nephews, family and friends that will cherish his memory.
