On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Joyce Janelle (Lindsey) Jenkins of Springfield, Ma. Departed this life surrounded by loved ones at Baystate Medical Ctr. in Palmer. Joyce
was born on June 14, 1935 in Whichita Falls, Tx and is one of 9 siblings. Joyce migrated to Springfield after marrying Dorsey Chris Jenkins and together they raised 6 children.
Most of Joyce's professional career was acting as a Nurse’s Aide at the Springfield Mass. Municipal Hospital, where she held this position for 25 years before retiring.
Joyce was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Holyoke where she served on the Usher Board. Presently Joyce attended worship services at Mission Church Ministries in Springfield, under the leadership of Bishop Robert M. Jones (son in law) and Elder Kathi M. Jones (daughter).
As the family matriarch, Joyce raised, loved, and cared for her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She is remembered for her love of BINGO, Puzzles, Crotchet, Daytime Soap Operas and Game Shows, love of cleaning, and good times in her early years at the Springfield Elks Lodge where she was a member.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of family and friends including 6 children and their spouses; Fannie Mae Lindsey of TX., Clarence Jenkins (Vanessa) of Springfield, Kevin D. Jenkins Sr. (Arlene) of Springfield, Rene M. Jenkins of Springfield, Debra Ann Jenkins of Tx. (Predeceased) and Kathi J. Jones (Robert) of Wilbraham; 28 Grandchildren; 76 Great Grandchildren; and 15 Great Great Grandchildren; and a special friend of over 50 years, Ora Lee Bell of Springfield.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday September 24th beginning with Calling Hours at 10:00 AM. and Homegoing Service at 11:00 at Mission Church Ministries, 20 Bowdoin Terrace in Springfield, Ma. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Flowers and donations can be sent to Harrell Funeral Home, Springfield, MA. Mandatory Masking for all patrons will be enforced.
