Katie Moore Obituary

Katie Mae (Miller) Moore, 66 departed this life on Thursday on December 24, 2020 at CareOne at Redstone, East Longmeadow, MA.  Katie was born on November 19, 1954 in Bastrop, Louisiana to the Late Willie and Clara (Price) Miller.  Katie’s parents moved to Springfield MA in 1965 when she was 11 years old and she has lived here for the past 55 years.

Katie attended Springfield public schools and graduated from the High School of Commerce and from there she went to work for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. After 10 or more years she left that job and she started on her college crusades.  These colleges included Springfield Technical Community College, American International College, Westfield University and her final higher education was University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA) obtaining a Master’s Degree in Education.  Katie then found her dream career as a Guidance Counselor for the city of Springfield in which she worked at many different schools.  Ms. Moore, as the students called her, loved her because of her caring, giving and selflessness she afforded to them so that they could reach their best potential.

In her younger years Katie loved to play softball with the same seven ladies and as a result they called themselves the “Magnificent Seven” who played for the Spfld Parks and Recreation Department and several other organizations.  Katie loved to have family gatherings, cookouts, holiday parties with lots of foods and good music.  She enjoyed having themed sleepovers for her granddaughter and younger nieces during school breaks and holidays.

Katie was predeceased by two grandsons, Tavon Moore and Hashim Moore.  Also predeceased were her parents Willie and Clara Miller, three brothers, John Williams, Boris Miller, and Donald (Mitchell) Price, as well as three sisters, Jimmie Lee Harris, Mary Williams, and Doris Price.

Katie leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son Ronald Moore, Jr. and her beautiful granddaughter Delayna Moore.  Also three brothers, Felton Price, Thomas Williams, Gregory Price as well as six sisters, Clementine Thomas, Annie Miller (her twin) Joyce Price, Gloria Miller, Lola Price all of Springfield MA and Mary Dean of Baton Rouge Louisiana.  She leaves three aunts, Edna Campbell of Springfield, Lula Tippit of Huston TX, and Fay Miller of Bastrop LA.  She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews as well as many, many, many cousins.

She also leaves to cherish her memory a special sister-cousin Debra Vance, sister-in-law Alethea Norrington, and special BFF Carolyn Roberson.  She also grew up with a special group of ladies known as “The Gang” from elementary to high school and beyond who will miss her dearly.

The family wishes to thank CareOne at Redstone for the awesome care she received while a resident.  We also want to thank all for the many prayers, words, and kind gestures that have been received during this time.
