Lawrence Eugene Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Elkins, West Virginia, as the third child to the late William B. Smith and Evelyn P. (Pondexter) Smith. Lawrence attended Elkins City Schools in West Virginia before moving to Springfield, Ma., with his family. He then attended Trade High School and studied Auto Mechanics. Locally Larry worked at Firestone for over 20 years then he moved on to The United Postal Service. He then finished his working years at Westvaco Envelope as a Machinist.
Larry was a lover of cars and loved to watch drag races. He enjoyed Sunday rides with his wife, Brenda, and loved being outdoors where he loved doing his yard work, you could always find him sitting on the deck. Larry loved to cook and cherished family time.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, William Brown Smith and Evelyn P. (Pondexter) Smith; his brothers, William R. Smith and James P. Smith; and sister, Constance Smith Coffer. Lawrence leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 54 years, Brenda Lee (Gadson) Smith; his caring son, Lawrence A. Smith and his fiancé, Shatina Murphy; his cherished daughter, Letisha R. (Smith) Holmes and her husband, William Holmes; his five adored grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jada, Annez, Kayla, and Nahzir; his two treasured great grandchildren, Alijah and Nigel; his loving sister, Pamela S. Dixon and her husband, Michael Dixon; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be deeply missed.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, at Harrell Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.
