Leroy Crenshaw Sr., 74, departed this life on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Eutaw, Alabama, he was the son of Glee Crenshaw and Lou Helen (Milton) Colvin. Leroy moved to Springfield in 1970 where he began teaching at Kennedy Middle School, and retired after 33 years. Leroy loved his students and was entirely devoted to them. Concerned for the growth and legacy of the city in which he lived, he ran for Mayor of Springfield during the 1990's.
Those who knew Leroy will remember him as a "Man of God", and a “Soldier for Justice.” He is predeceased by his daughter Belinda Crenshaw, and two brothers Robert Milton and Abner Milton, Leroy is survived by his beloved wife Bessie; two sons Leroy “Lee” Crenshaw Jr (Yahaira Morales). and Patrick Crenshaw both of Springfield; three daughters Camellia Crenshaw of San Antonio, TX and Tamera and Nicole Crenshaw both of Springfield, MA; a brother McArthur Milton (Susie) of Forkland, AL; a sister Mary Jones of Tuscaloosa, AL; 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, two sister-in laws Annette Milton and Mattie Milton, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a very special aunt Mary Helen Colvin to cherish his memory. There will be a visitation on Thursday, at Harrell Funeral Home at 11 a.m.-2p.m. Funeral and burial will take place in Boligee, Alabama
