The circle has been completed. In the early hours of April 24, 2020, Mamie (Spencer) Henney accepted the Lord's invitation to join him and to be reunited with her husband, Dallas Sr., her parents, Ambrose and Ella (Harmon) Spencer, siblings, Viola, Carrie, Edward, Miller, Eddie, Bodie, and Edward Spencer. She is also reunited with two other family members, John and Julia Henney, who originally came to Springfield from Louisiana in the 1950's.
Mamie was born in Louisiana on January 15, 1921. Following the move to Springfield, she worked for William Carter and Rainbow Coat Factories and later became a homemaker. She is survived by her children, Shirley A. Finch, Patricia H. Lyons (and Fredrick Sr.) of Springfield, and Dallas Henney Jr. of Pasadena, CA; her grandchildren, Henrietta, Elder Clarence Jr. (and Pauline), James (and Donna) and Micheal Finch, Sherrilynn Spencer, Thelma Housey, Fredrick Jr., Tricia Lyons, and Dallas Clark; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends including her Mt. Calvary Baptist Church family, where she sang in the Mass and Chancel Choirs, served as chaplain of the Missionary Ministry, and was a prayer warrior. Mamie also sang with the Freedom Choir, was a foster grandparent thru the Urban League, and volunteered with Head Start. Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 17 John St., Springfield, MA 01104.
