Mattie Lee (Tart) Williams, 72, of Agawam, Massachusetts, was born June 22, 1950, in Sampson County, North Carolina. A devoted woman of faith, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, was called home to her heavenly father on Monday, October 10, 2022. Mattie was born, to the late Robert Tart and Rosalee (Ford) Tart.
In pursuit of happiness, Mattie and daughter Patricia were traveling to New York and took a pitstop in Springfield, MA, where they settled and set roots for their family. Not long after, she brought the family to Springfield. Mattie provided for her family by working as a toymaker at Milton Bradley.
Mattie enjoyed traveling, cooking, and bargain hunting. Her true passion was to minister the gospel to those she came across. She was a faithful servant to God and a praying woman. To many, she sowed the seed of faith, and was able to see it come into fruition. Mattie was a longstanding member of Jubilee Family Outreach Center. Behind serving the Lord, her greatest joy was raising her children and being a big help to her family. Mattie had a big heart, always willing to lend a helping hand or ride to those in need.
Pre-deceased by her parents; two sisters, Helen and Eloise Tart; a brother, Larry Tart; and a daughter, Patricia Tart, she is survived by her former spouse, Fabian Williams Sr. of North Carolina; a daughter, Shantaya Williams of Wilbraham, Massachusetts; two sons, Fabian Williams Jr., of Springfield and Fabian “Chris” Glenn, of Worcester, Massachusetts; a son-in-love, Hubert Powel of North Carolina. She was a loving grandmother to Tashika Tart, Travis Tart Sr., and Iyanna Williams; a great-grandmother to Travis Tart Jr. and Serenity Tart. She was a sister to Eveline O’Neil, Robert Tart, Nathaniel (and Edna) Tart, and Linda Tart. Mattie had several (great) nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends that will forever remember her kindness and cherish her memory.
The funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday at Jubilee Family Outreach Center, 670 Prospect St., West Springfield MA, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
