Melvine "Nell" (Jenkins) Alexander, just a few weeks shy of her 90th birthday, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, after an illness.
Born in Shellman, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of Walter Jenkins and Evelena Clayton and had been a Springfield resident since 1976. A treasured member of New Life Calvary Baptist Church and a true "willing worker," Sister Melvine was a Missionary, a Deaconess, a church usher, and also served on the Pastor's Aide.
Predeceased by her husband of 67 years Hubert Alexander Sr., a son Timothy Alexander, her brother Will Jenkins, a sister Martha Crapps, and a grandson Karmari Alexander, she is survived by five sons, Henry Baldwin (and wife, Wanda), Hubert Alexander Jr. (and wife, Marilyn), Curtis Alexander (and wife, Shawn), James Alexander, and Christopher Alexander; three daughters, Evelena Alexander, Patricia Alexander, and Lisa Alexander; two sisters, Marie Grean and Marjorie Jenkins; two god-daughters, Emae Crapps and Mary Natteal; 35 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; as well as several best friends who will all cherish her memory.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at New Life Calvary Baptist Church, 981 Wilbraham Road, followed by funeral services at 11. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
