Michael L. Wingfield, 73, of Chicopee, MA, departed this life on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at his home.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he was a son of the late Will Smith and the late Annie Mae Wingfield-Smith. Michael moved to Springfield 67 years ago and had been employed as a salesman for Macy’s Department Store as well 18 years at the Men’s Dept of Fileen’s and the former Enzo Men’s Clothing Store. Well-known in the area as DJ Dirty Mike, he worked at the Esquire Lounge and The Waterfront, both in Springfield. Michael was a member of Daniel’s New Bethel Church Of God In Christ.
Pre-deceased by a brother, Bobby Smith, a sister, Deloris Smith, and a grandson, Michael T. Wingfield, he is survived by his fiancée, Doreen Nelson; three sons, Michael Tyrone Wingfield, Damin Mullen, and Davone (and Laniya) Mullen; two daughters, Pumpkins Jackson and Charelle Arrington; two step-sons, Michael Lee Nelson and Lamar Nelson; two brothers, Willie Smith and Vernon Welch; a sister, Shirley Smith Mullen; eleven grandchildren five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Harrell Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.
