Minnie Spear Obituary

  Minnie Jewel (Washington) Spear, 78, of Patterson Avenue in East Longmeadow, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center.  Born in Shellman, Georgia, Minnie was the beloved fifth child of twelve children born to Booker T. Washington and Minnie Lee (Tillman).  She relocated to Springfield in 1949 where she was able to  display her many talents of cooking and mentoring others.  She enjoyed many things including music and dancing.
 

  Minnie leaves four sons Terry Washington, Gerald Washington, Alfonzo Dixon Jr. and wife Jenna all of Springfield, and Ricky Dixon and wife Lisa of East Longmeadow; three daughters Julie Akers and Mia Dixon both of Springfield and Vicky Ann Dixon of Bridgeport, CT;  two brothers  Jay and Billy Washington both of Springfield, five  sisters Dorothy Davis, Ernestine Major, Betty Jackson, Blanche Lewis and Grace Green, 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She now joins her siblings who predeceased her: Booker T. Washington Jr., Waverly Martin, Edna M. Lewis, and Arie Washington.

There will be a calling hour Friday  at noon at Macedonia Church of God In Christ, 215 Tinkham Road, Springfield followed by a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m.
