Obie Nathaniel Brodie, 87, of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at his home. Obie was born on August 11, 1936, to William Brodie and Nina Neal in Louisburg, North Carolina. There he lived until becoming a young man, at which time he moved to Springfield. Shortly after moving, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. There he served in Germany for three years, until his tour of duty was over.
Returning back to Springfield, he met his wife, married, and raised a family. Starting off working at the American Bosch, he later became an employee of the United States Postal Service. There he worked as a letter carrier for more than thirty-five years.
Obie was pre-deceased by both his parents, his brother, and his wife, Marion C. Brodie. He is survived by his sister, Doris Brodie, his six children, Judy Leblane, Eddie Brodie, Nathan Brodie, Darlene Smith, Marvis Brodie, and Obie Brodie Jr. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more that loved him dearly.
The calling hour is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at New Mercies Church Of God In Christ, 185 Industry Avenue, Springfield, MA, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
