Pastor Sammy L. Burton Sr.

Pastor Sammy L. Burton Sr. 80, of Springfield, MA, departed this life on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Born and raised in Hughes, AR, he was the 6th of 16 children of the late Mary Ella Brock and Jessie Lee Burton. He is the husband of Natha L. Burton. Sammy Burton and his family relocated to Lynn, MA, where he attended and graduated from Jackson High School and then worked for Vernon Plastic, Coca Cola, and General Electric. After serving for many years as a faithful, loyal Chairman of the Deacon Board at Mount Olive Church Of God In Christ, Lynn, MA, the Lord elevated Elder Sammy L. Burton to Pastor and leader of the New Beginning Church of God in Christ in Chicopee, MA. Because of his dedication and faithfulness to servanthood, he was elevated to Superintendent of the Holy Faith District in Massachusetts First Jurisdiction C.O.G.I.C., under the administration of Bishop Samuel Bryon Hogan and State Supervisor, Mother Fanneree Baymon.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, three brothers, Charles Brock, John A. Burton, and Robert Burton, and a son, Sammy L. Burton Jr. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Natha L. Burton; ten children, Diane Crocket, Barbara Burton, John Burton, Mark Burton, Rosemarie Hudson, Vickie Bouknight, Tanya Ward (and Wade), Darro Brown (and Kimberly), Ronda Carter (and Bernard), and Donna Wilson; 11 siblings, Florence Bennett, Andrew Burton (and Patricia), Frank Burton (and Terry), Ozella Norris, MaryAnn Brock, Lenora Reynolds, Velma Brock, Vermeil Brock, Diane Rucker, Floyd Brock, and Fanneree Baymon (and William); 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five god-children, Elaine Cheers, Darlene Rucker, Sammy Roy, Nyla Thompson-Coppedge, and Staci Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

The “walk-thru” wake is 10:00 am -11:00 am Monday, May 3rd at Deliverance Center Ministries, 336 Springfield Street, Springfield MA followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
