Mr. Ricky Bernard Wallace Sr., 62 of Springfield, Massachusetts was called to be with the Lord to rest in Heaven, on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 25, 1958. He is predeceased by his parents, Rudolph Rivers, Sr., and Maggie L. Wallace; two brothers Rudolph Rivers, Jr., and Samuel (Beast) Wallace, two sisters Iris D. Wallace and Cynthia Chavis.
Ricky was a part-time Bus Driver for a transportation company. He previously, worked at the Hampden County Sherriff’s Department as a Correctional Officer and he was also employed by Digital Equipment Corporation.
Ricky graduated from Technical High School in 1976. When Ricky was younger, he played football for the “Hill Jets,” where he was an awesome quarterback. Ricky was also acknowledged as one of the greatest basketball players in Springfield History. Among his numerous accolades and accomplishments in basketball, Ricky received the prestigious Lahovich award trophy for basketball, which is only given to the top basketball players in Western Massachusetts. Ricky and his son Isiah were the second father and son to receive this prestigious Lahovich award. Ricky received many Division one scholarships. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota with a basketball scholarship. Ricky was very proud of his children and always supported them in their endeavors. He was proud to see his sons win the Sabis High School basketball state championship. If you knew Ricky, or Mr. Wallace as some called him, you knew he was a part of the Sabis teams. Mr. Wallace was one of their biggest cheerleader’s, at every event (We all knew how quiet he spoke.). Ricky also enjoyed his grandchildren. To them, he was known as Pop-Pop and Papa, they stole his heart. Ricky had a love for jazz music, football, fishing, cooking, telling stories, and he was the life of the party.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, high school sweetheart and soul-mate of forty-five years, Andrea D. (Barklow) Wallace, three sons, Derrick B. Stenson, Ricky B. Wallace Jr., Isiah E. Wallace, and one daughter, Yvonne M. (Meme)Wallace of Springfield, MA. Six grandchildren, Dashaun Stenson, Danasia Stenson, Derrick Stenson, Jahova Stenson, Kayden Allen, Ryder Wallace, and one great grandchild, Damon Patterson all of Springfield, MA. Three brothers, Alvin D. Wallace, Sr., of Springfield, MA, Leroy (Sonny) Chavis, Sr. and June of Lakeland, FL, Ronald (Butch) Miller and Norma of Charlotte, NC, two sisters Doris Williams of Tampa, FL and Crystal Charmaine Rivers of San Leandro, CA. Ricky was the Brother-in law of, Brenda Wallace, Denise Rush, Jeanne’ Barklow-Hall and Glen, Yvette Barklow-Gibbons and Horace all of Springfield, MA and Tracey Barklow of Columbus, OH. He also leaves a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many close friends. Ricky was genuinely loved by many and will always be remembered in their hearts
