Robert A. Townsend

  Robert Allan Townsend, 68, of Springfield, MA, departed this life at home on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

  Born in Ludlow, MA, he was a son of Albert Rossmeisl and Shirley Townsend.  Robert attended local schools and was employed as a truck driver for R.M. Sullivan Trucking Co.  He was a Vietnam Era Veteran of the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Oriskany (CVA-34), aka “The Mighty O” in the South China Sea.

  Pre-deceased by a sister, Sherry L. Mederios-LaBonte, he is survived by his wife, Susan Y. (Gladden) Townsend;  two children, Tanisha C. Townsend (and Carlos) and Aaron B. Willis (and Marti);  two brothers, Edward Asher and Patrick Townsend;  two sisters, Anna E. Hottin and Sandra J. North-Payne;  two grandchildren, Alana Willis and Victor Rijo;  a grand-puppy, Petey;  many nieces, nephews, and cousins;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at Harrell Funeral Home.
