He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, and retiring as a Master Sergeant. He loved to make people laugh and smile which always made him a joy to be around. Sam was a longtime member of St. John’s Congregational Church in Springfield, where he served on the Finance Committee.
He leaves his beloved wife of 69 years, Adrienne Shirley (Burnett) Williams; a loving daughter, Dr. Adrienne Y. Smith (and husband, Curtis); a cherished granddaughter, Stacey Smith; two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Maxwell; a niece, who he raised, Debbie Twe (and husband, Dr. Boika Twe) and her children, Emman and Dakona; three brothers Lee Williams, Glen Williams, and Rick Williams; a sister, Sandra Smith; many nieces and nephews, and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
