Sonya R. Johnson

  Sonya Renee Johnson, 52, of West Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center. 

  Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of Gladys Leggett and James L. Johnson Jr.  Sonya graduated from Springfield Public Schools and Westfield State University and went on to Springfield College where she earned her Master's Degree.   Sonya worked as a teacher and paraprofessional in the Springfield and Agawam school systems.  She was an active member at St. Johns's Congregational Church.

  Sonya is also survived by her mother, Gladys Leggett (predeceased by her stepdad, David Leggett), her father, James L. Johnson (Lynn Johnson), a sister, Tarsha Johnson-Kasilo (Wilfred Kasilo), two brothers, David C. Leggett Jr. (Bethany Leggett), Devon L. Johnson, a stepbrother, Clarence Major, a special friend, William Blackmon (Randy), and a host of other family and friends. 

The calling hours are 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 6, at Harrell Funeral Home.
